Help For Parents: Tips To Make Parenting Easier
and More Rewarding
At Help for Parents you can find parenting advice for busy parents to help
you better cope with and enjoy your children.
Children are amazing. And challenging. And so many things – funny, annoying, cute, exasperating, kissable, cloying – often in rapid split-second succession that adults have a hard time keeping up. Sometimes spending time with a child can feel like your emotions have just been through the blender, they’ve been chopped and churned and will never be quite the same again.
But the most amazing thing about children is what they teach us about ourselves. Do you remember saying to yourself or out loud that you would never ‘x’ (insert your verb of choice here – hit, yell, ignore, belittle…) your children? And you didn’t and you were proud of yourself.
Then they did something unexpected – drew on the wall, spat in your face, said they hate you, ran out in front of traffic – and
in anger you did exactly what you vowed you would never do. And probably had a major
anxiety attack about it too!
Parenting is something we learn, both from being parented and our own hands-on experiences. But the way we were brought up is different to the way most people want to raise their own children. So how do we make that leap from one style to another when in a crisis we revert back to what we have in our back catalogue?
There are many parenting issues which today's parents need to deal with like
ADD/ADHD, discipline (how much is too much? is time-out OK?), obesity and
depression in children (how do you know if they need therapy or to speak to counselors or attend programs for troubled teens?), picking the right school,
coping with troubled teens...and on it goes.
To get through this tough and incredibly rewarding experience called parenting, we need to learn from each other. And that’s what
Help for Parents is about – sharing the experiences that I and other parents have gained along the journey so far…
